
Shanghai Exhibition Centre
Established with the approval of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, Shanghai Exhibition Center (hereinafter called SEC) is an economic entity specializing in offering large-scale conference and exhibition services. With its buildings completed in March 1955, SEC is the first ever site for conference and exhibition after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. SEC is affiliated to Shanghai Exhibition Centre (Group) Co., Ltd. Other subsidiaries include: Shanghai Expo Centre and Shanghai Centre.
SEC is unique among Shanghai buildings. Its Russian-style architecture is elegant, with gorgeous decoration. In 1989, it was named as “1949-1989 Top 10 Shanghai Architecture”, in 1999 it was named as “Shanghai Top 10 Gold Classic Architecture in the 50th Anniversary of founding of the PPC “, and in 2005 it was rated as the fourth batch of outstanding historical buildings in Shanghai. It covers an area of 93,000 m2 and a building area of 80,000 m2. SEC is located in the center of Jing’an District, with West Nanjing Road in the north, and Middle Yan’an Road in the south, which has the rare geographical advantage in Shanghai.
According to their functionality, SEC is divided into two parts, the north part and the south part. With Dome Hall, Central Hall, East Hall 1, and West Hall 1, the southern part forms an exhibition area, Friendship Hall together with East Hall 2 in the north is designated as the conference area. SEC has 42 multi-functional exhibition halls, covering an area of 22,000 m2.
